"The miracle isn't that I finished.
The miracle is that I had the courage to start."

Before I met coach Megan I was training for Ultramarathon distances all on my own, from 50k to 100 miles. While completing the distances and meeting my goals was exciting, I didn’t realize what I was missing until I committed to her training program.
When you train on your own it’s easy to get “lost” in what you are comfortable with and actually over train with those “junk miles.” I started training this year and with her expertise I feel stronger, better recovered and have more variability in my training. At my first race this year, I not only beat my goal time in one of my most difficult races to date, my legs didn’t fatigue like I was used to and the last 2 miles were the faster of the entire 50 mile race.
Not only do I feel better trained and stronger this year - following the training program is so easy! Coach Megan fully customizes your plan to fit your busy life and work schedule, so not only do I not have to plan my own training, but I still have time for my kids and important events/travel.
I highly recommend Sloan Coaching and Coach Megan! I am very excited about conquering more goals this year!

I began running with Megan fifteen years ago. She is the one who encouraged me to start and she has never stopped encouraging me. My running is the strongest when she is coaching me, and she does it in a way that fits with my schedule, lifestyle, and ambitions.

Although I am a certified personal trainer, have coached numerous 5K and half marathon training groups over the last decade, I have found that I simply cannot be trusted to stick with my own program. It was getting a bit out of hand as the years went by, letting my own training take a backseat to everything else. I was almost at a point where I thought maybe I’ll just not run. Well, I could still run, but not with any goals or consistency. Guess what? That doesn’t really work. Not when you love to run. I have been watching my friend Megan coach and train a variety of athletes, from brand new to well seasoned. "Hmmm. Maybe that’s an idea." Before I could talk myself out of it I hired her!
Best decision ever! I have been working with her for almost a year now and have felt better than I have in a long time. Having accountability, instruction and a coach who really cares is a game changer. Megan really listens to me, works with my schedule (which can be crazy), backs down, and also pushes me when I need it.
If you are in need of a coach to get you going, she is your gal! Whether you are training for a 5K, ultra marathon, looking to get faster or go longer, she’ll get you there.

As a busy working mom, it feels impossible to balance everything, but Megan creates personalized weekly plans that fit perfectly into my schedule (including flexibility for work travel and illness). She helped me prioritize self-care during a stressful time in my personal life while also pushing me to achieve my goals. The training is challenging but always achievable, and I never feel overwhelmed, which says a lot with my Type-A personality! I have no concerns about crossing the finish line of my first marathon this fall with Megan’s prep plan

I first considered working with a coach when Megan started the Crystal Lake Half Marathon Training Program in 2021. I joined the program and spent that summer following my training plan from her every day for 12 weeks. When I crossed the finish line that September, I earned a massive 5-minute PR. But more importantly - I knew the coaching worked. That day was also the day my life changed in huge ways, completely unrelated to running. And it was the day I realized running would get me through what was coming. Since then, Megan has gotten me across some of the happiest and craziest finish lines I've seen.
She has coached me through ultramarathons, road marathons, and countless shorter races. I’ve gotten faster. I run farther. Megan has been there when running was the only thing that felt good in my life. She's coached me through my running funks and illnesses. She's even not coached me when I needed to take a step back.
But as I got back into it and struggled to rebuild my routine on my own, I reached out to Megan again. I realized I needed someone to take on the mental load—to structure my training, understand my life’s demands, and help me balance it all. Megan knows my goals, my personality, and what it takes to keep me healthy and race-ready. She’s also always just a text away for questions, encouragement, or even a reality check when I need it most. If I have thoughts or questions or want to complain about the hills again, she's ready for it.
Every night I go to bed knowing what my workout will be the next day. As a single mom with a full-time job, having that one thing already planned is a godsend—I don’t have to figure out one more thing about my day. I don't have to wonder if it's too much or too little. I just have to make sure to do it.
Megan has also coached my sons as part of Kids Run This Town—which they absolutely loved! As I train for my own races, I share my workouts with my kids and we talk about Coach Megan and how they trained for their race, continuously showing them what it takes to set goals, stay consistent, and work toward success.
Thanks to Megan, all three of us crossed our first finish line together in 2024 (and it won't be the last!). We’re all proud Sloan Coaching athletes!
